Archive of Dreams: A Surrealist Impulse

A Journey Through the Surrealist Movement and Its Influence on Other Avant-Garde Movements

The exhibition “Archive of Dreams: A Surrealist Impulse” at the Archive of Avant-Gardes (ADA) is dedicated to the Surrealists and their influence on other avant-garde movements such as Dada, Cobra, Fluxus, and Pop Art. With around 300 artworks, documents, and publications from the 20th century, the exhibition reflects the fantasies, desires, and nightmares of artists.

Highlights and Activities

The exhibition showcases avant-garde practices that blur the boundaries between reality and dream, passive archives and active revolutions, past, present, and possible future. Over 300 works, including objects, collages, drawings, books and magazines, photomontages, and films, illustrate the working methods of surrealist artist groups.

The accompanying program offers public tours of the exhibition and interactive activities, such as a Dream Mosaic, an open drawing format for children, and a Prompt Battle centered around surreal AI art, where the audience decides the outcome.
