Museum of Dresden Romanticism

In the Inner Neustadt district stands the “Gottessegen” house, built at the end of the 17th century, also known as the “Kügelgenhaus.” The portrait and history painter Gerhard von Kügelgen (1772–1820) moved into the second floor with his family in late summer 1808. Since 1981, the Museum of Dresden Romanticism has been located here. In nine thematically arranged rooms, an important era of Dresden’s cultural and intellectual history of the 18th and 19th centuries comes to life. Exemplifying bourgeois social life around 1800, the museum presents the circle around Oberkonsistorialrat Christian Gottfried Körner and the von Kügelgen family with their guests.
